While I’m at it..

Saturday, October 29th, 2005

Oh yeah, the London thing. The megabus arrived in Victoria at 6am as per usual so I wandered around for a while then headed to Camden where I sat by the canal for a few hours and had a read. Was nice to chill for a while, sup some golden top milk, munch some plain chocolate digestives and watch the narrowboats go up and down through the locks. Bumped into and Ryll outside Cybordawg then metup a short while later with . Wandered around some more, had a drink in Weatherspoons, then Ryll headed for home and the rest of us set off to Hamleys. Met up with , , Samoth, , , , , , and (although I didn’t know I’d met her at the time). Hamleys was interesting, many silly things to ooh and aah at, though it was kinda full of kids (duh). I did however almost cream my pants over a four-tier stand of sound activated vibrating and laughing soft toys. So much fun! TPG and I headed off together and sat in Camden Gardens before getting evicted, then by the canal for a bit watching all the spooky kids and gangs of youths go by. After it started getting cold we headed Devwards and met up with peeps again plus , , and . Went for nosh then turned up shortly thereafter and much chatter was had. N.B. must never ever ever find out my real name, ok? Then we Slimed. Didn’t get to see the plane crash but I did see the kitchen, complete with work surface, washing machine, dish washer and kitchen table. Spent the night sober, not through lack of trying. The industek floor was amazing, Autoclav 1.1 dished out some interesting new stuff and finished with a great cover of Theme from S’Express. Hadn’t heard much Iszoloscope previously but it was a funky mix of rhythmic noise and breakcore, the kind of stuff where you get into the tune so much you don’t need to tell your body where to dance, it just does it. Bumped into both and very very briefly. Danced on the goth floor a bit with TPG then fell asleep on her in the kitchen for over an hour. Woke up somewhat refreshed, danced some more then left the club to a dreich and dreary day outside. Went to chill in Starbucks, met and others who names I unfortunatly forget. Ambled towards the coach station with TPG plus Zeke and friend, picked up a McDonald’s (my god, what have they done to their chocolate milkshake! It tastes shit now!), said my goodbyes and went back to Dundee. Fin.

Some links and some thoughts

This article is stupid. Most new architecture these days is post-modern rather than modernist which means it combines different influences from various styles of architecture. Stupid Objectivist bint.

Check this twat, asking on the WordPress support forums for a way to get a LiveJournal users password or to read their private entries. Uselessly enough, searching for that e-mail address gives .

Also, have a look at the Foton Records Osaka Remix Project. The original track is a chaotic sounding field recording that hits you like a wall of sound, made on a walk through a busy videogame hall in Osaka. For any discerning experimental music lovers who are interested, remixes I’d recommend checking include those by Displacer, Radial, Synth-Etik, Object, Paul Devens, Skomg, Ysop, C-Sprite, Final Cut and especially the versions by (as Jeye).

For any audio peeps out there, hae a gander at the Audiopad, something I’ve been meaning to blog about for years now. From the bumf; “Audiopad is a composition and performance instrument for electronic music which tracks the positions of objects on a tabletop surface and converts their motion into music. One can pull sounds from a giant set of samples, juxtapose archived recordings against warm synthetic melodies, cut between drum loops to create new beats, and apply digital processing all at the same time on the same table. Audiopad not only allows for spontaneous reinterpretation of musical compositions, but also creates a visual and tactile dialogue between itself, the performer, and the audience”. Very postcyberpunk looking, would be sweet to have a muck about with it. Would be even sweeter if they started selling them at some point.. Another beautiful looking piece of technology now with the Saitek Audio A-350 wireless headphones which I rather think looks the shit. Unfortunatly it’s one bit of kit I don’t really have £66.99 to waste on at this moment in time.

Oh, and Microsoft are wanting to extend RSS. And this Slashdot comment is funny because it’s so true..

Flats of the future

Friday, October 28th, 2005

Quick update to say what’s going down. I’ve everything out of my old flat now and stored in my grand-parents mainly unused dining room for the time being. I’m currently searching for a flat to rent or buy but I’ll need to speak to my bank and figure out how mortgages work at some point soon.. Tomorrow I’m going to Sin, and on Saturday I’ll be out to Mr. Skinner’s Hallowe’en party, getting drunk then probably ambling along to Cage. My whereabouts after that point in the evening are as of yet unknown. I got a written warning regarding the web browsing thing which will stay in my file for 12 months. I’ve also got another investigation coming up, this time into my sick days (I’ve allergic rhinitis and I don’t handle colds very well). Oh, and I got my Creative Zen Micro back again, albeit a 6Gb model this time. According to my local Sony Centre, my regular headphones aren’t produced anymore, but I’ve ordered in a pair from Amazon along with a couple of books I’ve been wanting for a while now. Nini.

Moan

I’ve mainly been feeling numb the last few days. I think the reality of the situation hit me on Monday evening when I returned to the flat for some t’ings to find the living room ceiling had part-way collapsed, with wallpaper haphazardly hanging from the roof and a pile of damp plasterboard rubble on the floor. The insurance people were round yesterday and have declared my side of the building as being totally unfit to live in, and my dad (who’s an architect) thinks it will be next Easter until it’s sorted. So it’s definitely time to look for a new place, a task that I am absolutely shitting myself thinking about. As I mentioned in the last post I’m currently staying at my parents although we’ve already had arguments about silly minor things. One huge problem is that I can be a right sarcy bastard with people I feel comfortable around (or, in this case, feel I should feel comfortable around), but my mum just does not get it and constantly thinks I’m having a go at her. Another massive problem is that my parents are trying to move house right now and have all the stress from that to cope with already. I feel both guilty that I’ve got my parents to help me through this but also angry at myself that I’m not together enough in the head atm to be able to cope with this sort of shit. Anyway..

I was feeling rather sentimental on Tuesday while clearing out the empty alceehol bottles from the top of my kitchen cupboard, resigning all those tokens of Good Times past to the bottle bank of, um, history. My mum refused to allow me to bring my two-legged cat home because he was dirtied by the water that came into the flat, but I gave him a bit of a bath and dropped him off at Beast and Kris’ place to get acquainted with their cat Sprite. I’ve still to locate Jigglypuff and Snorlax, although I’m sure they’ll be in my bedroom somewhere along with everything else.

I feel so tense as well. I had my disciplinary hearing today, now I have to wait for the outcome which should be delivered in the next day or so. It got so bad during the hearing that I’m sure I must was visibly shaking backwards an forwards (worse than the effect of my OCD when I try and sit still and listning to unrhythmic noise). I don’t expect to be able to relax until I’m lying on my bed in my new place of residence. That sounds like a plan.

Sod this, I’m going to bed. Rah.

Hmm…

Basically put, my flat is fucked for the moment. Seen in the light of day, it looks like the whole ceiling in my living room will have to be replaced in case it falls down of it’s own accord. My parents and I moved everything into my bedroom this afternoon and it looks like I’ll be staying with them for the rest of this week at least until we find out exactly what’s happening with the building (like when they’re going to sort the big fuck off hole in the roof that I didn’t notice until my dad pointed it out). Tonight I’m at Andy and Jo’s again, looking forward to the disciplinary hearing tomorrow plus getting in shit for being ill again. If things go badly with the flat/job I’ll be really tempted to just get out of here. Edinburgh or the outskirts of London are tempting locals, but my brain freezes with fear when I think of the logistics of moving and the requirement to get a job. Ach.. I’m gonna try and sleep now…

Fire in the disco!

Saturday, October 15th, 2005

Yeah, like, my building was on fire today. Had a policeman banging on my door at 3pmish to get me out, so I threw on some clothes and stood across the road watching reams of smoke emanate out of the roof for a while. Two fire engines, some chocolate milk and a couple of hours later and disaster seems to have been averted. The building is three stories high and I’m on the second floor, but all the action seems to have been contained within the attic. Apparently there is water damage to some of the flats above mine, poor peeps. The cause is unknown atm, but I’ll see what happens with that. I’m at and s atm (100m around the corner) but have been advised to return at 7pm when the fire crews will hopefully have finished their thang (I need some pants!).

Update: But not tonight… The fire peeps will be in there until tomorrow. The roof has become slightly unstable and there is a chance slates could be knocked in the wind. I got my pants and other essentials, although the floor of my lounge is soaking from water that has come down the walls from above. There was a tarp covering my sofa courtisy of the fire brigade so I got to shove a few things under that in case any further water comes down during the night. God damn mother fucking son of a bitch, aaarrghhh. Will be crashing at Andy and Jo’s tonight and heading out in a while to drown my sorrows and meet ’s Dad. Later y’all.

P.S. Real Time Worlds licenses Unreal Engine 3

RTW has secured a studio-wide license from Epic, which means affiliates Denki and Real Time Worlds Asia also have unlimited access to Unreal 3 technology for their own console and PC titles.

is hopefully gonna have fun :)

Still ill, ocelot

Thursday, October 13th, 2005

I’m off again today, still feeling totally bunged up. Went to the doctors and got some stuff for my allergic rhinitis plus blue and brown inhalers for my asthma. One day I’ll pluck up enough courage to talk to someone about my suspicions that I’ve got ADD, although as much as it fucks up my social life/memory/attention span, long-term medication for the brain scares me. Saying that, it’s only a suspicion. I don’t do self-diagnosis and I don’t want to sound like some smart-ass going “hey, look at me, my brain is weird!”.

P.S. For ; really sleepy ocelot.

P.P.S. 1763 comments, 8 pages worth of filth.
