Damn, I’ve just lost.

Friday, January 27th, 2006

Y’know, if I had the ability to find out one specific peice of information from any point in the history of mankind, I’d like to know who started The Game. I first heard it form London goths at the November WGW in 2002 but only when I stumbled upon the Wikipedia article did I realise how widespread it was. Unfortunatly, the thing about the Wikipedia article and the nature of and peoples attitudes towards The Game in general is that a) some people think it’s too silly to take seriously and add misinformation to the article, so it’s extremly hard to figure out what info on there is complete bollocks due to the whole word-of-mouth thing and b) some people take both the whole concept or even just loosing it too seriously and have invented variations like a 30 min grace period to forget about it before they actually loose or silly scoring systems. It’s a fucking joke people! Christ. Anyway, someone got a reference to it posted on the BBC online news magazine letters page yesterday. Also, someone has setup a site looking for the origins of the meme. However futile this might sound, a few people have made claim to where it all came from. But how sad are these! Then again, it would kinda spoil the mystery of the whole thing to know where it came from. And there are much more important things I could wish to know, for example the secret formula for Irn-Bru. I should probably ignore the Wikipedia article – I’d loose a whole lot less, plus I could always just give anyone I came across who claimed there was a grace period a slap in the face as I go along.

P.S. This reminds me I really should get a Something Awful forum account at some point.

P.P.S. Dark-hop! What’s that shit all about? (And it’s good shit, I assure you).

New job? Oooohhh!

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

OMG, I fucking work for Abertay University! I feel so elated at getting this position as it’s my first job working for an organisation that actually treats it’s employes nicely while I get do stuff I rather enjoy. In a nutshell, I deal with a/v shit. To be more specific, I (and the two other guys at my level) deal with most of the equipment situated in the teaching rooms (maintenence, rebuilding/imaging pcs, etc), loaning out a/v equipment and other misc stuff. We don’t touch any of the students pcs or any network shizat; that’s all handled by a team that DJ Matt is part off. Abertay is also planning to spend £2 million on refurbing part of the building to create a new ‘Media Lab’ that will house our offices and have lots of snazzy new t’ings for students to use that can also be hired out to the general public. And I have a fucking pension! It’s, like, crazy shit, man. Everyone seems nice so far, although the HR dept. has already proven how shit they are by forgetting to tell the IT team that I’d become a member of staff, delaying my account being setup by almost a week.

Anyway, I’m heading down to Birmingham tomorrow evening to attend the Dark Masquerade masked ball in Oxford with , which should be fun, so I’ll catch yas all later.

A new year (and all that)

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

So.. *taps fingers* it’s a new year. Given the fact that everyone else uses the time around an existentially arbitrary date in the calendar as a point of reference to reflect on the past 365 days, I guess I should jump on the band wagon too. 2005 was a good year I’d like to think. The biggest ups and downs seem to have balanced each other, mainly the roof of my old flat burning in forcing me to move then my finding my oh-so-much-better new place, and finding out my job was due to go to India then getting the job at Abertay Uni. Other things included my fluxuating monetary situation and getting to meet and know some cool peeps from various events like Infest and Dark City and my ventures down to London and Edinburgh. I got to know some people I’d met before but hadn’t properly spoken to better but I also learnt something about a certain long time friend that made my usually pacifistic blood boil. I learnt some more about life and the best ways to approach it, and I became close to two special people who mean a whole load to me. This coming year, well, I guess I’ll just continue on as normal. I’m happy with staying in Dundee with my new job for the now, not that I can really move due to the lease on the new flat, so getting out more to meet old and new friends and generally having fun is my top priority atm. So, yeah, bring it on!

P.S. Check out this sweet reworking of the Last Ninja 3 theme by mind.in.a.box’s Stefan Poiss.

P.P.S. Oh, and this is nifty. (Anyone wanna milky link?)

Things to do

Tuesday, January 17th, 2006

Gah, there’s so many things I could be doing/writing/working on atm but they’re the kind of things that require time set-out and devoted to them in order to get them complete and I don’t think my mind could stand that right now. Getting caught in the perpetual um-ah procrastination cycle isn’t helping things either. This seems to have been my general state of mind most evenings recently.

One thing I would venture to say at this time is that I’d highly recommend you check out DJ Chris Rhon and his amazing mixes. Moving between alt dance and alt rock (!!! mixes well into Rotersand), this is the kind of traditional genre group line busting I’d love to hear when out clubbing. Check out the track listings.

P.P.S. If you haven’t heard it yet, check out MilkMiruku — Electro Vibes Mix (no, not specifically the hip hop subgenre or the post-ebm genre, more a small selection from the result of the ripples the former genre started off).

Events in 2006

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

Right, apart from Oscillated and Infest, what other events or club nights would you all recommend I attend or visit? I’m planning to make 2006 a year for visiting places and people around the UK (and possibly further afield).
