Just wanted to share a few albums and tracks I’ve been listening to recently. First off is the ‘7 minute mix’ project, available for download on the Ninja Tune forum mixes site. 20 DJs are given 7 mins of track time each to use, creating an impressive 4 hour long mash-up of music in two parts. The mixes progress nicely as each DJ segment beings in new genres and artists going between old/new pop & rock, hip-hop, funk, chill out, drum & bass, 8-bit electronica, idm, jazz, funky house, electro-funk, ska, and much more plus misc weird shit. See how many tracks/samples you recognise. And I’m sure I heard a synth pad from the intro of an Ulrich Schnauss song in the background about 10 mins in…

Tracks I’ve been listening to recently include UNKLE’s funky reconstruction of the Dr Who theme, available here (cheers ). They so should have made it the theme for the new series. Also discovered electropop band Schmoof’s cover of ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’, available here. I rather like it, but IIRC, “they’ve murdered a perfectly good song” was ‘s reaction 😛

Can’t wait for the release of Mind.In.A.Box’s new album after hearing the ‘Certainty’ EP that was released a couple of weeks ago. I absolutely adore the mixture of progressive trance, futurepop and ebm that was their first album, ‘Lost Alone’. Another interesting EP I’ve been listening to is Gewaltakustik’s ‘Disharmonie’ (thanks to ).

Top albums of the last few weeks: System Of A Down’s latest, ‘Mesmerize’; not a bad track on it imo. M83’s fab ‘Before The Dawn Heals Us’, which I think could be termed as post prog-rock (thanks again to ). David Sylvian’s ‘Gone To Earth’ – very good, almost as amazing as ‘Secrets of the Beehive’. Dreamy, soulful and thoughtful easy listening. Laugh & Peace’s soundtrack to the playstation game Vib Ribbon; bouncy, crazy and innovative jpop like tracks. Good luck finding this; the forum post I got links to the tracks from last week has been removed 🙁

P.S. “One day I shall come back, yes I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, and no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs, and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine.”

P.P.S. “What’s he building in there? What the hell is he building in there?”
