Here’s the message I sent to the members of the Things and stuff to do in Edinburgh group I administer on Facebook a couple of days ago regarding some upcoming free events around town. Maybe some local peeps might be interested?

??? Public meeting, presentation and discussion on UK Biobank ethics

“Are you interested in the ethics of science? Join the UK Biobank Ethics and Governance Council for a presentation and discussion of the ethical issues surrounding research databases

UK Biobank was launched in 2007 and is a long-term project to build a major resource of data and samples to help understand and improve public health. The project will involve 500 000 individuals aged 40 ? 69. The Ethics and Governance Council was created as an independent body to advise on the ethics surrounding UK Biobank. This event is an opportunity for the public to hear more about the project and to discuss its work and impact.

“On Monday the 7th July at our usual time of 7.30pm Helen Kay from the Peace and Justice Centre will be talking about women?s suffrage and The Gude Cause, a 2009 event which will celebrant the 100th anniversary of the Women’s Suffrage Movement.”

“A celebration of underground, independent and small press publishing in all its forms be it art, comics literature, politics or other weirdness. We have an exciting programme of workshops, films and stalls but are still looking for more participants to sell their wares or run events over the 2 days.
